Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism in Uruguay:
Chagdud Gonpa Uruguay
Chagdud Gonpa Uruguay was founded to fulfill H. E. Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche´s aspiration to establish the Buddha dharma—particularly the Nyingmapa lineages of Tibetan Vajrayana—in the Spanish-speaking countries of Latin America. Since Rinpoche's Parinirvana in 2002, the organization is under the spiritual direction of Rinpoche's wife and student, Chagdud Khadro.
We belong to an international network of Spanish speaking centers at South America where its headquarter is Chagdud Gonpa at Tibet and Sengue Dzong (Lion Fortress) is its temple placed at Lavalleja - Uruguay. At Uruguay, about an hour and a half from Montevideo amid beautiful hills, Sengue Dzong has been built of stone in the style of Eastern Tibet and Bhutan and its interior is now being ornamented. We are doing daily practices as Red Tara and monthly trainings about Four Reflections that Change the Mind are offered at Sengue Dzong.
On Febraury of 2010 we made our first Chenrezig Drubdchod guided by Jigme Rinpoche, HE Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche son.
A sangha also meets at Minas, the town nearest Sengue Dzong and also at Florida. At Montevideo its Sangha practices Red Tara and the Vajrayana Preliminaries.
"If I were to leave only one legacy, it would be the wisdom of pure motivation. If I were to be known by one title, I would like it to be the “motivation lama” . In the moment that our heart moves toward compassion for all beings, our motivation expands toward the all-embracing motivation of a bodhisattva".
His Eminence Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche was born in Eastern Tibet (Kham) in 1930. Recognized at the age of four as a tulku (incarnation of a meditation master), he received rigorous training, deepening his studies through extended retreats. He had a special affinity for the sacred arts, for Tibetan medicine, and he was renowned for his wonderful chanting voice.
Chagdud Khadro met His Eminence Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche in March 1978, married him in November 1979, and remained his devoted student for twenty-three years. At the time of her ordination as a lama in 1997, Rinpoche invested her as the future Spiritual Director of Chagdud Gonpa Brasil. Since Rinpoche's Parinirvana in 2002, she has focused on maintaining the high caliber of Vajrayana training he had established. Today Chagdud Khadro is tireless in cultivating the seeds planted by H.E. Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche: the construction of Padmasambhava’s Pureland, translation and publishing of texts in Portuguese and Spanish, projects related to education and to death and dying. Khadro supervises the activities and teaches in all the Chagdud Gonpa Brasil centers and Chagdud Gonpa Uruguay. She also teaches in Europe, United States and Australia.
